Given that Germany has committed two notable genocides in the 20th century and that it is now assisting in and even making money from the Ziofascist Israeli genocide of Palestinians, one cannot help but wonder if Germany is an inherently genocidal nation and if they will ever learn anything at all from history:

And the answer to that is “No, it has not,” because all that official Germany does (and for that matter also official Austria) is to use what Holocaust survivor and Jewish public intellectual Norman Finkelstein calls “The Holocaust Industry” to enable and facilitate Ziofascist Israel’s genocide of Palestinians. Germany’s leading Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the opposition Christian Democratic Party (CDU) have ordered high schools in Berlin’s borough of Neukolln to distribute brochures titled The Myth of Israel #1948.
During a public meeting of the Neukolln district council of Berlin on Wednesday, a motion was passed stating that “the district office is asked to advocate the use of the brochure “Myths#Israel1948” in Neukolln’s secondary schools to confront existing anti-Semitic narratives within the educational framework of the school”.
“The expanded definition of antisemitism of the IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) and the German government should also be communicated”, the motion added.
The brochure is created by the Jewish association Masiyot, which was founded in 2022 and enjoys the support of the Berliner Landeszentrale fur politische Bildung, the Federal Center for Political Education.
It seeks to unite professionals from different disciplines to “raise awareness of authoritarian ideologies through education, enlightenment and criticism”, the website says.
Neukolln is one of Berlin’s most diverse and international boroughs with a large Palestinian community.
Middle East Eye has reached out to Neukolln’s district council but has received no comment at the time of publication.
The left-wing parliamentary group of Neukolln has described the brochure as distorting history and has filed for an amendment of the motion.
The amendment asks the district office to prevent the circulation of the brochure in Neukolln’s schools and urges the Center for Political Education to stop promoting the project.
‘The false myth of land theft’
The brochure states there are five “myths” around the creation of the state of Israel, which are subsequently refuted in short essays by various authors.
In the first section, debunking myth #1, that Jews and Arabs lived together in peace before Israel was founded, Israel’s pre-state militia, the Haganah, responsible for the destruction of 531 Palestinian villages and the expulsion of 700,000 Palestinians between December 1947 and the summer of 1948, is promoted as a merely “defensive” Jewish resistance movement.
Under ‘Myth #2: Israel was established on stolen Palestinian land’, Masiyot states that the acquisition of land by Jewish immigrants to Palestine took the form of a legal exchange of capital for an official title deed.
At no point in history was land illegally conquered by Jewish immigrants, the author of the text, Michael Spaney, claims.
Even land conquered following the wars of 1948 and 1967 and the subsequent construction of settlements, which are internationally recognised as a violation of international law, did not occur unlawfully, it says.
“Anyone who uses the accusation of land theft as an argument demonises Israel and denies its legitimacy, i.e. acts out of antisemitic motives,” Spaney wrote.
“Myth #5: Israel is to blame for the Nakba”, includes a text by researcher Shany Mor titled “the UN is distorting the meaning of the Nakba: its view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is extremely one-sided”.
In the text, Mor states that “displacement during war — then and now — was nothing unusual”.
He also labels the UN’s attention to the Palestinian cause “obsessive” and the Arab defeat of 1948 a myth.

There has been a relentless campaign to harass, scare, intimidate, silence, fire, dismiss and defund people and organisations who have dared go against the German government’s and institutions’ staunch support for Israel.
At the heart of this vicious persecution is the nationwide guiltwashing — or the cover-up of authoritarian state policies through the pretense of addressing Germany’s historical guilt for the Holocaust.
The message of the guiltwashers is clear: Germany alone is exceptional in its stance against anti-Semitism. Germany alone is fit to judge anti-Semitism. Germany, in opposing the exceptionalism of the Nazi era, is today exceptional once again but, of course, in a different and supposedly progressive way.
The sheer lack of self-awareness would be amusing if it were not so tragic and if its consequences were not so disastrous. Various Jewish authors and scholars have repeatedly pointed out the anti-Semitic nature of this guiltwashing approach.
“We have a form of anti-Semitism … that is not even addressed as anti-Semitism, and it is the collective silencing of Jewish voices that do not abide by the dominant discourse in Germany,” Emilia Roig, a Jewish French scholar and writer, said at a December event in Berlin.
According to Jewish writer and researcher Emily Dische-Becker, a third of those who have been “cancelled” in Germany for alleged anti-Semitism (i.e. expressing solidarity with the Palestinians) have been Jews, including descendents of Holocaust survivors.
Guiltwashing does not fundamentally care about the safety of Jews. Otherwise, it would not be pushing a discourse that is so recklessly increasing societal tensions at a time when hate crimes against Jews, Arabs and Muslims are spiking and when intercommunal solidarity is what is most necessary.

Ghassan Hage, professor of anthropology and social theory at Melbourne University, is an internationally renowned scholar whose critical work on racism, multiculturalism, diaspora and the politics of nationalism has influenced generations of academics in Australia and worldwide.
Considered one of Australia’s most significant intellectuals, this week Hage announced he and his German lawyer are taking the Max Planck Society (MPS) to court after the organisation ended its “working relationship” with him earlier this month, citing “posts on social media expressing views that are incompatible” with their “core values”.
Hage had been offered a fellowship by MPS in Germany, at the prestigious Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology. Less than a year after his arrival, the latest war in Gaza started. Hage became increasingly outspoken on social media about his views on Israel as a Jewish state, and in his criticism of the Netanyahu government and the governments of certain Western nations. In the view of some observers, Hage’s view is “not unlike other anti-racist visions of a multicultural Israel/Palestine”.
Hage’s criticism caught the attention of Welt am Sonntag, a German newspaper, which published an article accusing Hage of promoting “hatred of Israel”. Supporters of Hage claim that domestic political pressure then forced the MPS into “end[ing] its working relationship” with the professor. MPS’ statement ends by saying that “racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, discrimination, hatred, and agitation have no place in the Max Planck Society”.
Hage’s statement spells out the circumstances in more detail. According to Hage, the MPS wanted him to sign a non-disclosure agreement and then leave quietly. Hage rejected the proposal. Instead, he asked to be “unilaterally sacked”.
Hage believed that he had become a “liability” to the MPS. He strongly rejected the organisation’s implication that he is racist and anti-Semitic:
What to me is a fair, intellectual critique of Israel, for them is ‘anti-Semitism according to the law in Germany’.
Details about what Hage said on social media can be gleaned from the English translation of an article — published in Zenith, written by a Germany-based anthropologist.
The MPS vs Hage incident has precipitated a wide array of responses in scholarly communities across the globe. Numerous expressions of solidarity with Hage have been published. On February 16, the American Anthropological Association, with a membership numbering around 8,000, released a letter of support, calling upon the management of the MPS to reconsider its decision. On the same day, the president of the Australian Anthropological Society wrote to the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, urging it to “exemplify the value of free speech and robust and informed academic debate”.
What must have been the most powerful support came from a large group (with more than 50 signatories) of Jewish scholars, both within Israel and worldwide. Their letter says that, while many of them disagreed with the method of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, of which Hage is a proponent, they nevertheless believed that criticisms of Israel are not the same thing as anti-Semitism:
As Jews, some of us descendants of victims of the Nazi Holocaust, and some who research the Holocaust and racist violence more generally, we take this opportunity to voice our concern over the conflation between criticism of Israel and anti-Semitism, which is putting Jewish life in the diaspora, and Germany in particular, at risk.
But expressions of solidarity have not been limited to the discipline of anthropology. More than 360 signatories from a wide range of academic disciplines (the number is still growing, and it includes my signature), mostly from Australian universities, have issued a letter of support, describing Hage as “a leading voice in global debates about racism and ethno-nationalism”.

On April 5, 2024, Berlin lawyers are filing an urgent application against the German government to stop the approval of war weapons exports to Israel. The urgent appeal is being filed by Palestinians in Gaza who are demanding an immediate halt to the supply of weapons to Israel. As there is reason to believe that these weapons are being used to commit grave violations of international law, such as the crime of genocide and war crimes, the applicants are hereby demanding that the German government protect their right to life.
In 2023, the German government issued arms exports licenses to Israel worth 326.5 million Euro, the majority of which were approved after October 7, 2023, a tenfold increase compared to 2022. The German government is currently supporting the Israeli army by approving the supply of 3,000 portable anti-tank weapons, 500,000 rounds of ammunition for machine guns, submachine guns or other fully or semi-automatic firearms, as well as other military equipment, while in early 2024 Germany was preparing the authorisation of 10,000 rounds of 120mm tank ammunition. In addition, Germany authorised Israel to use two of the five TP-Heron combat drones that they had previously leased. A comprehensive report recently published by Forensis, Forensic Architecture’s Berlin-based affiliate, that brings together governmental records with data from monitoring groups and other initiatives, provides significant additional insights on past, current, and potential future arms exports from Germany to Israel.
As early as February 23, 2024, Palestinians filed criminal charges against members of the German government for aiding genocide in Gaza. The urgent application is therefore only logical: the arms deliveries and support provided by the Federal Government to Israel violate the Federal Republic’s obligations under the War Weapons Control Act. The criteria for the approval of arms exports include, among other things, that the weapons are not used against Germany’s obligations of the international law, in this case that Israel does not violate human rights and international humanitarian law. Since the ICJ in its decision of January 26, 2024 already sees evidence of genocide in Gaza, the Lawyers’ Collective believes that the delivery of weapons is contrary to these obligations. A Dutch court of appeal also ruled on February 26, 2024 that the delivery of F-35 spare parts to Israel must be stopped. The aim of the urgent motion is therefore to immediately stop future approvals of weapons of war deliveries to Israel and to revoke approvals that have already been granted.

We have seen aggressive people from the media being here, attacking some of the attendees of this congress, and the police is enabling this very dangerous, unsafe situation for people who came here to learn and to connect and to find solutions in a democratic and legal way. But the German government, represented by these police officers, that — to be honest — are scaring me, are enabling this repression to continue, to go on.
So I don’t know what is happening and I hope we find a solution soon, but I rest assured we will not stop and Palestine will be free.”

Dr Anna Younes is a German Palestinian scholar working on the ‘New Antisemitism’ discourse, race critical theories and settler-/colonial theories. Like many others she has already been subjected to several disinformation campaigns, publicly defamed, censored and unfairly excluded from public and academic spaces way before 2019. In 2019, however, Dr Younes discovered that a secret dossier which selectively draws on certain publications of hers and takes them out of context, was written up and distributed by RIAS/MBR in order to get her disinvited from public speaking engagements. Said dossier had been privately passed on to people in die Linke and distorted her work or articles to make defamatory statements about her, including by framing her as an anti-Jewish racist and sexist terrorist sympathizer. Subsequently, Dr Younes was disinvited from a panel discussion on right-wing extremism and anti-Muslim racism organised by the Berlin chapter of Die Linke where she was supposed to present her work on anti-Muslim racism and right-wing networks in Germany.
In violation of European data protection law, Dr Younes was surveilled for her scholarship and activism, causing her loss of employment, reputational damage, as well as an uncanny repetition of surveillance strategies as known from German history. Dr. Younes, the ELSC and her lawyers argue that the creation and circulation of RIAS’ secret dossier — without Dr. Younes’ knowledge or consent — gravely infringed upon her right to privacy, freedom of expression, and academic freedom and amounts to digital surveillance. More importantly, her case does not stand in isolation; it rather unmasks the multiple layers of systematic repression that have been silencing and criminalising Palestinian voices in Germany for a long time. Beyond that, this case is also crucial as it testifies to the importance of halting further infringements on the right to privacy and to free political expression of political minorities, such as anti-war and anti-capitalist movements or climate activists.
Concerned about the consequences of this repressive surveillance for herself and other academics, activists or journalists, Dr Younes reached out to the ELSC and took legal action.
Nearly two years ago, the Berlin District Court upheld Dr Younes’ claims and ordered VDK — the German state-funded organisation that legally represents RIAS Berlin and MBR — to give Dr Anna Younes access to the data that the two organisations had secretly gathered and disseminated. The information released by VDK revealed that RIAS Berlin and MBR had been collecting people’s personal data based on their ‘positions on Israel and BDS’.
Dr Younes and her lawyer now expect the court to order RIAS/MBR to pay damages for the harm suffered by Dr Younes for more than two years. Not only should RIAS/MBR pay damages for having violated Dr Younes’ right to information, as confirmed by the first instance court, but also for the unlawful collection and dissemination of a dossier aiming to damage her reputation.
Dr Younes’ lawyer, Alexander Gorski, said:
This legal battle is about making sure that state-funded organisations such as RIAS Berlin and MBR are held accountable for their repressive practices which have extreme consequences for individuals’ reputation and fundamental rights and freedoms. This must stop.
In March 2024, RIAS (the federal organisation whereof RIAS Berlin forms the local Berlin branch) released their report on ‘Anti-Semitism within BDS’, which enacts yet another targeted attack against the BDS movement and its supporters. Furthermore, RIAS also continues to use unfounded allegations of antisemitism and support of terrorism to further repress Palestine solidarity as well as turning the important category of anti-Jewish racism to mean nothing but “critical of Israeli politics” thereby enabling a dangerous and deeply racist hollowing out of what we mean by anti-Jewish racism. Finally, within that vein, RIAS also confirms its use of the harmful and widely criticized ‘IHRA definition of antisemitism’ to assess incidents of antisemitism.
It is obvious that organisations like RIAS are instrumentalizing the fight against anti-Jewish racism to platform a discourse aimed at repressing and erasing Palestinian voices and anti- or de-colonial narratives, especially at a moment when a wide range of individuals and groups in German civil society are raising their voice against the ongoing genocide and against Germany’s support of Israel’s settler violence. — said Dr Younes.

5. The April 30 ICJ Ruling
“Based on the factual information and legal arguments presented by the Parties, the Court concludes that, at present, the circumstances are not such as to require the exercise of its power under Article 41 of the Statute to indicate provisional measures,” Nawaf Salam, the court’s Presiding Judge read from the judgment.
The ruling does not change anything about the fact that, as shown in the previous sections, official Germany aids and abets Ziofascist Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in ever so many ways though.
